It just took 1 juror to say that the aggravating factors do NOT outweigh the mitigating factors.

therefore its life

I feel bad for the victims' families as listening to them speak to the press is heart wrenching.

Give him death but one of the family members must be willing to pull the trigger or he gets life in prison

^ There may have been more than 1 juror but not 100% sure. I was watching but really wasnt listening as it took a good 45 minutes to read.

They read every single count and one of the first few read was the NO. The look on the parents' faces was a BAD gut punch

This is liberalism at its finest. You need a unanimous jury. They found a juror to hold out. If this isn't a case where the defendant should get death when is there one? I can only hope that any juror that voted for life is the victim of a violent crime. The newspapers and the media for the last 4 years almost on a daily basis here have been making the case for him to get life. Cruz had a tough life, his mom was an alcoholic and drug addict, etc.. I dont give a fuck about him. The worst part about this is that he is in solitary confinement so unless someone screws up and lets him into general population in prison he won't get shanked. To add insult to injury he wasn't even shackled when he was sitting in court. We are too nice to criminals. I am an attorney and I understand everyone is entitled to an attorney but quite frankly listening to the defense attorneys, they could probably use a little violent crime perpetrated against them to understand the seriousness of what Cruz did and the pain he inflicted on the families of the victims.

What kind of prison sentences are they going to give to all the coward cops who stood down as kids were being murdered?

I'm absolutely for truth in sentencing, I believe violent criminals should do time.

I'm opposed to the death penalty

I believe life in prison is a lot of suffering, even more so than killing him. I believe I don't have the right to choose who lives and who dies. And in the last 50 years, about two hundred people who were on death row have been exonerated.

PS: It's cheaper to feed him in a jail than it is to kill him. So much red tape, so much legal maneuvering, so much time wasted trying to kill the man. Lock him up, walk away and laugh at his future

This is not a conservative vs liberal issue, although it is more a party vs party issue. There are scores of similar issues, nothing to do with conservatism in the political arena. But lines in sand drawn along party lines

Willie in this case there is no question of guilt so we would not be executing an innocent person.

This has been going on long enough.

What sucks is the building where the shooting happened is still up as they cant take it down until they do the trial for the school's SRO (supposed to be next summer)

There is a low fence that surrounds that building. Such a site for sore eyes when driving by there

I get that, some cases will be more clear than others. But where do you draw the line on that one?

Listen, I oppose the death sentence, I'm a advocate for strict truth in sentencing, but I not going to cry if a violent criminal is executed

If the state of Florida has the death penalty it's hard to fathom how someone can murder 17 people and not have that as their punishment. It seems like a flawed system when 1 person gets to decide Cruz's fate when 11 other people think the death penalty should be applied.

Currently there are over 2000 people on death row in America. That's a lot of people whose lives could potentially be saved if we took those 2000 inmates and donated their organs.
